A successful AED program has several essential components. To ensure that your AED program meets the basic legal requirements for owning an AED, you will need to make sure that the following components are in place:
Device Prescription Most of the AEDs available from ZEE Medical require a medical prescription from an overseeing physician.

Medical Direction A successful AED program includes the involvement of an overseeing physician to ensure compliance with state Good Samaritan requirements. Good Samaritan laws are designed to help protect your organization from liability when you maintain an AED on site, and if the AED is ever used.

AED Response Protocols Every AED program should include a written response plan of action in the instance of an emergency. This document should outline the policies and procedures of owning and deploying your AED(s).

CPR / AED Training Responders Your AED is only as useful as the team employed to use the device in the event of an emergency. In order to maintain a successful AED program, you must have a volunteer response team that can administer CPR and use the AED.

State / Local EMS or 9-1-1 Dispatch Notification Some states require you to notify local EMS or 9-1-1 dispatch when you install an AED at your facility. This will help professional emergency personnel determine their appropriate response plan when an emergency occurs at your site.

Regular Maintenance Checks An AED is only beneficial if it's ready to use in the event of an emergency. To remain compliant with most local, state, and federal laws, you must regularly inspect your AED(s) to make sure they are operational.
